The Regie hosted an academic delegation from the LAU School of Engineering at its headquarters in Hadat with the aim of “strengthening the collaboration between the Regie and academic institutions in general, especially LAU” according to a statement issued by the Regie.
The Dean of the School of Engineering Dr. Michel Khoury led the delegation, which included Associate Dean Dr. Caesar Abi Shdid, Dr. Marc Haddad, Dr. Mahmoud Wazne, Dr. Pierre Rahme, and Dr. Noel Maalouf, the statement added. The delegation met with members of the Regie’s Board of Directors, Eng. Georges Hobeika, Dr. Issam Salman and Dr. Mazen Abboud. Accompanied by Hobeika and Abboud, the delegation toured the Regie's factories to inspect the methods and means of production, and visited its power plant.
The delegation was given a detailed technical presentation on production in the presence of managers and heads of specialized departments at the Regie, as well as the two Board of Director members.
In his speech, Khoury expressed his admiration for Regie and said that it served as a model for how to manage both public and private companies, adding that it “operates according to international standards and rivals many private sector organizations in this regard.” He also said that the School of Engineering was eager to collaborate with the Regie, be it through research, consultancy, or training courses for students. As for Abboud, he conveyed the greetings of the Regie’s chairman and general manager, Nassif Seklawi, to the delegation.
“Collaboration between academia and the market is no longer a luxury but a duty, as higher education institutions are not ivory towers but economic engines, idea incubators, and essential partners for companies seeking to grow in a competitive world,” he said. “What is taking place today is a step toward the required union between thought and reality on the ground,” he concluded.
