The Lebanese Regie for Tobacco and Tombacs (Regie) began purchasing tobacco crops from farmers in northern Lebanon on Monday, October 5, 2026, according to a statement issued by the administration.
Regie explained that the crop receiving process is taking place at three centers affiliated with its Tripoli branch and is expected to take approximately a month and a half to complete.
Dr. Mohammad Kabbara, Head of the Agriculture and Purchasing Department in the North, said that “the first day of the purchasing season was satisfactory for farmers bringing their crops to the purchasing centers and committees, particularly after the administration introduced a fair price increase, provided financial assistance for each kilogram, and raised the transportation allowance for each bale, taking into consideration the rising costs borne by farmers.”
He added that “this would not have been possible without the directives” of Regie Chairman and General Manager Eng. Nassif Seklaoui, stressing that “the administration is committed to supporting farmers and providing them with assistance, considering them partners in sustainable rural development.”
In its statement, Regie noted that farmers expressed satisfaction with the smooth progress of the crop delivery process and the prices adopted for purchasing their crops
