The Regie’s Department of Agriculture and Purchasing in Northern Lebanon launched agricultural extension seminars in Akkar and Miniyeh-Danniyeh districts, in collaboration with the Leaf Tobacco Directorate.
Several farmers from the Akkar district — specifically from the villages of Kweikhat, Tal Hayat, Mqaitaa, Qaabrin, Tal Maayan, Qlayaat, Zouk al-Hosniyeh, Halba, Arqa, Semmaqiyeh, Hekr al-Dahri, Qubbat Shamra, Sammouniyeh and Burj al-Arab — and from the villages of Ezal and Deir Nbouh, in the Miniyeh-Danniyeh district, took part in the seminars.
Eng. Daoud Daoud, along with agricultural technicians from the Department of Agriculture and Purchasing in Northern Lebanon, delivered presentations on preventive measures and production-related practices in tunbac cultivation.
The sessions were held in the presence of agricultural observers Hassan Tlayje, Karim Tarssisi and Haitham Haddara.
The speakers stressed the importance of using the seeds provided by the Regie, properly equipping nurseries to prevent fungal diseases, rationalizing the consumption of agricultural pesticides and chemical fertilizers to minimize residue in crops, and rationalizing water usage to help preserve soil quality.
The speakers offered farmers practical tips for adapting to climate change in the Akkar region and provided guidance on Good Agricultural Practices (GAP), with the aim of improving the standard of living for farmers and their families.
Moreover, participants discussed the distribution of aid and gifts, as well as the role of management in supporting farmers.
The seminars concluded with expressions of gratitude from the farmers to the Regie’s chairman and general manager, Eng. Nassif Seklawi, for his continued support during the economic crisis.”
