The Lebanese Regie for Tobacco has begun installing the first Virginia tobacco fermentation chambers at its Tripoli branch, as part of a strategic initiative to strengthen and sustain both the agricultural and manufacturing sectors. This initiative marks the launch of the process to establish the necessary infrastructure for the local cultivation of this tobacco variety.
The project is being carried out by a team comprising members from the Tripoli branch, the Agriculture Department, and the Equipment Maintenance Department, in collaboration with the Greek company Vencos Varsos S.A., represented by its general manager, George Varsos.
The local cultivation of Virginia tobacco represents a qualitative leap towards supporting farmers and enabling them to grow high-quality crops. At the same time, it provides the local tobacco industry with a competitive raw material, contributing to lower production costs for national tobacco products and to strengthening self-sufficiency.
