Regie clears lands dedicated to tobacco farming in order to support farmers affected by war

The Lebanese Regie for Tobacco announced on Saturday that it had begun “clearing lands dedicated to tobacco seedling cultivation across several Lebanese regions, as part of its ongoing efforts to support farmers and facilitate their work.”

“This initiative falls within a special plan aimed at securing tobacco seedlings and distributing them to farmers who were unable to plant this season due to the recent Israeli war on Lebanon, which prevented them from accessing their lands or carrying out their agricultural work as required,” the Regie said in a statement.

The statement explained that the land-clearing operations are being conducted “according to the highest standards, ensuring the production of high-quality seedlings ready for timely distribution. These efforts aim to sustain the agricultural cycle for the current season and to reinforce farmers’ resilience amid challenges.”

“Through this initiative, the Regie reaffirms its strong commitment to farmers, who remain a cornerstone of the agricultural economy in rural areas,” the statement added.
