The village of Al-Amara, Akkar district, celebrated on Thursday the implementation of a project to build irrigation canals in the town, funded by the Lebanese Regie for Tobacco and JTI.
The celebration, held in Mayor Khaled Al Salkh Square, was attended by President and Director General of the Regie, Engineer Nassif Seklaoui, representatives of JTI Muhammad Jaber and Hadi Suleiman, Leaf Tobacco Manager, Engineer Abdel Mawla Al-Mawla, Head of the Anti-Smuggling Department, Engineer Muhammad Daher, Head of the Agriculture Department in the North, Dr. Muhammad Kabbara, as well as mayors from the region, head of municipalities, clergymen, agricultural unions’ representatives, social activists, and local residents.
During the event, Seklaoui praised the resilience of farmers amidst current economic and security challenges, and JTI representative Hadi Suleiman highlighted the project’s high standards and hoped that it would benefit the farmers.
Mayor Khaled Al-Salkh thanked the Regie and JTI for their support of agriculture and farmers.
The first phase of this project, which is part of the Regie's sustainable development strategy, was completed in recent years with financial contributions from the Regie, and the second phase was funded by JTI in collaboration with the Regie.
