The Regie’s chairman and general manager, Eng. Nassif Seklaoui, conducted a field tour in the Sour district, accompanied by Leaf Tobacco Manager, Eng. Abdel Mawla al-Mawla, and Head of Agriculture Directorate, Eng. Jaafar al-Husseini.
A delegation from Japan Tobacco International (JTI), headed by its general manager in Lebanon, Mohamad Jaber, and comprising Sales Director Faisal al-Ansari and Office Administrator Nathalie Abou Kors, also participated in the tour, which was held within the framework of supporting development and environmental projects in southern regions.
The tour included two field visits, starting with the town of Maarakeh, where the delegation inspected a vital development project aimed at upgrading the wastewater network infrastructure to benefit around 300 families.
This project was implemented in 2025 with funding from JTI and support from the Regie.
The delegation was welcomed by Maarakeh Mayor Adel Saad and Deputy Mayor Hussein Trad, in the presence of the town’s mukhtars and local figures.
During the visit, speeches highlighted the pivotal role played by the Regie in supporting tobacco-growing villages and sustainable local development. The mayor also presented Eng. Seklaoui and Jaber with commemorative shields in appreciation of this constructive cooperation.
The delegation then visited the town of Deir Qanoun Ras al-Ain, where it was received by Mayor Sobhi Seklaoui, Deputy Mayor Jamal Ismail and several municipal council members.
It followed up on an environmental project funded by JTI in 2025 which involved the provision of a waste-collection vehicle, thereby contributing to improved environmental and public health conditions.
The mayor presented an honorary shield to Jaber in recognition of JTI’s contribution and support for development projects in the town.
These initiatives underscore the Regie and JTI’s shared commitment to supporting the resilience of local communities.
