The Anti-Trafficking Unit of the Regie Libanaise des Tabacs et Tombacs raided the largest cigar counterfeiting warehouse in the Haret Hreik area, in Beirut’s southern suburbs.
The Regie said that the closure of this warehouse falls within its ongoing efforts “to combat the smuggling and counterfeiting of tobacco products,” which pose a direct threat to the national economy and deprive the state treasury of substantial revenues.
It stressed that smuggling does not only result in financial losses but also endangers public health, as the origin and quality of the products are unknown.
Seizure reports were filed against the violators and sent to the competent judicial authorities for further action.
