A Regie patrol came under gunfire after carrying out a raid in Tariq al-Jdideh (Beirut), during which it seized smuggled and counterfeit tobacco products.
In a statement, the Regie said that “its Anti-Trafficking Unit had conducted raids in Tariq al-Jdideh and Taanayel as part of its efforts to combat the smuggling and counterfeiting of tobacco products. It seized large quantities of counterfeit molasses (mu’assal), as well as smuggled cigars, cigarillos, cigarettes, electronic cigarettes and Ajami tobacco.”
The statement added that “the patrol that carried out the raid in Tariq al-Jdideh was shot at while leaving the area,” affirming that the Regie “will prosecute the perpetrators.”
Seizure reports were filed against the violators and sent to the competent judicial authorities for further action.
